Overview

Graduating from school and moving into the workforce is one of the most challenging career transitions your students will encounter. For graduates, this transition means learning a new set of skills and adapting to a new set of roles. Although it is exciting, this transition from school to a new job can also be chaotic and stressful.

This workbook helps students identify the potential pitfalls to a successful transition, and then helps them devise and implement a plan for overcoming those weaknesses. It features checklists, tips, examples, worksheets, and case studies that open students’ eyes to the skills, knowledge, and attitudes needed for success beyond school.

The most prominent skills needed to be successful in the school-to-career transition can be placed into the following categories, which correspond to the five sections of the workbook:

  • Career transition
  • Job search
  • Career management
  • Emotional intelligence
  • Life management
